What is a passport file number?

A passport file number is a unique 12 or 15 digit reference number given to an applicant when they apply for a passport. It is not the same as your passport number.

The file number helps the applicant to track the passport application status. It is alphanumeric and is usually found on the address page or the last page, at the bottom section of your passport.
